With a fervent fan base of loyal owners, a reputation for top-tier reliability, and best-in-class V8 power, the Chevrolet Silverado is one of the most popular pickup trucks in America. As if the beloved truck needed any more resume padding, the Silverado family of vehicles recently received major kudos for its ease of maintainability.
Per U.S. News & World Report, the Chevrolet Silverado is among the top 10 Easiest Cars to Maintain and Repair. Easy maintainability is a big plus for truck owners, as having an easy-to-repair vehicle means you won’t experience long waits and expensive bills for parts due to slow supply chains or hard-to-find parts.
According to John M. Vincent and James MacPherson, writers for U.S. News & World Report, the length of the Silverado’s generations contribute to ease of maintenance. “The models aren’t fully redesigned as often as many vehicles, so there tends to be plenty of repair parts available,” the experts stated. They also credited the truck’s passionate, knowledgeable fan base, which makes it easy to get advice on caring for your truck. Other contributing factors to the Silverado’s high reliability include a spacious, uncomplicated engine compartment and common parts with other popular Chevy vehicles, such as the Tahoe and Suburban.

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Colorado recently earned top spots on U.S. News & World Report list of the 16 Trucks with the Best Gas Mileage. The turbodiesel powertrain on the Silverado 1500 scored especially high, though the turbocharged gasoline four-cylinder engine also earned a place. The Colorado turbodiesel and four-cylinder engines also made the list.
The 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine offered on the 2020 Silverado 1500 scored number one of the U.S. News list thanks to its impressive rating of 33 mpg on the highway and 23 mpg in the city.1 This powertrain is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and it generates 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
“Its huge boost in torque helps the Silverado return the best fuel economy estimates in the full-size pickup truck segment,” according to U.S. News & World Report writers Steven Loveday and Liana Madrid. “In addition, when properly equipped, the Silverado with the turbodiesel engine can tow up to 9,300 pounds.”
The 2020 Colorado also scored high marks on the U.S. News report, thanks to a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine or an available 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel.
