Silverado Wins PickupTrucks.com’s Light-Duty Challenge

light-duty challenge
2015 Chevrolet Silverado

The 2015 Silverado 1500 faced off against the industry’s best trucks and came out on top in the 2015 PickupTrucks.com Light-Duty Challenge.

The verdict came through after a team of five PickupTrucks.com experts put five new light-duty pickups through a full week of testing at the iconic David Dam grade, including the latest GMC Sierra 1500, Ford F-150, Toyota Tundra, and Ram 1500.

The trucks were evaluated for their performance, payload, trailer-capabilities, and fuel economy distilled into six key categories: Overall Performance, Ergonomics, Tech & Entertainment, Suspension & Ride, Interior/Exterior, Visibility, and Value.

“The Silverado with the new powertrain is an impressive example of both brute strength and refined comfort,” said Mark Williams, PickupTrucks.com editor. “No matter what kind of heavy loads we threw at the truck, the ride and road feel were smooth and confident.”

Next-Gen Chevrolet Volt Will Debut at 2015 Detroit Auto Show

The next-generation successor to the award-winning 2014 Chevrolet Volt will debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The 2016 Volt will aim to build on the strong foundation of its predecessor’s technology innovation. The current Volt has received multiple customer satisfaction awards from leading third-parties and was the highest-rated compact car under $55,000.

On average, Volt owners drive about 63 percent of their overall miles in electric vehicle mode, which has helped save more than 25 million gallons of gasoline since the car’s debut in 2010. It has also helped Volt owners collectively log more than 500 million gas-free miles.

The best part? Volt owners who charge regularly typically drive more than 970 miles between fill-ups, with only the occasionally monthly gas station visit.

“Volt is the perfect example of the ingenuity that drives everything we do at Chevrolet,” Mahoney said at the Center for Automotive Research Management Briefings. “Volt fully delivers on the promises of Find New Roads and will continue to provide consumers with the transportation solutions they need and deserve in the future.”

2014 Chevrolet Volt Receives 2014 Top Safety Pick+ Award

The 2014 Chevrolet Volt has received a 2014 Top Safety Pick+ award by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It is the only vehicle among 12 small cars tested to have earned the recognition, making it one of the safest small cars—whether gas-powered or electric—on the road.

To earn a Top Safety Pick+ award, the 2014 Volt scored the highest possible rating of “Good” in multiple IIHS crash tests, including moderate front overlap, side, roof strength, head restraints, and seats.

The IIHS recently named the 2014 Chevrolet Volt a Top Safety Pick+.

It also scored the 2nd highest possible rating of “Acceptable” in the small overlap front test, the most difficult of any head-on tests performed by either the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the IIHS.

“The Volt’s crashworthiness performance puts it in the top tier for small car safety,” said Joe Nolan, IIHS senior vice president for vehicle research. “GM should be commended for the Volt’s performance in the small overlap front test because this car was designed before that challenging test was introduced.”

The Benefits of Owning a Diesel Car Are Numerous: Owners Save Thousands

Buying a car can be downright overwhelming when you consider monthly payments, insurance, fuel costs, repairs and maintenance. If you’re looking to save money, choose a diesel. While upfront it may cost more, over the long run, a diesel can save you $2,000 to $6,000 in total ownership costs over three to five years as compared to their gasoline counterparts, according to research by the University of Michigan’s Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI).

Not only are diesel models more fuel efficient, but they depreciate more slowly than gasoline models. According to AOL Autos, “UMTRI’s research compared 12 diesel vehicles to their gasoline counterparts and found they achieved between eight and 44 percent higher miles per gallon, resulting in ten to 29 percent lower fuel costs overall. When looking at depreciation, UMTRI found that 11 of the 12 diesel cars analyzed held their value better than their gas counterparts during the first three years of ownership, with eight logging savings of 17 to 46 percent. Over five years, there was an overall savings of 10 to 39 percent in depreciation costs.”

New Corvette Stingray Offers Top Efficiency

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will offer drivers an EPA-estimated 17 city and 29 highway miles per gallon and 455 horsepower when equipped with an available 7-speed manual transmission. This rating makes the Stingray the most efficient sports car on the market for 2014.

Bradshaw Automotive of Greer, SCWith its 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine and a host of fuel-saving features like “Eco” mode, the all new Corvette Stingray boasts an 11 percent increase in highway fuel economy and a 6 percent increase in horsepower over the 2013 Corvette.
