The Ward’s Auto “10 Best Engines” list tends to celebrate traditional engines each year, listing the most innovative, powerful engines that have been created for the past year’s line-up. However, this year there seems to be a different trend.
This year, Ward’s stretched the definition of engine by adding three hybrid models to their list, honoring the powertrains within: the 2016 Chevrolet Volt, the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid, and the 2016 Toyota Prius.
Of these three, the 2016 Chevy Volt is by far the most impressive, with the ability to run on electricity alone when charged. In fact, the current Chevy Volt can travel up to 53 miles on pure electricity. That completely unheard of in the electric market!
It’s worth noting that by including these three models on their list, Ward’s is truly recognizing the power of hybrid powertrains. They may not be traditional engines, but they can still be remarkably powerful. This may also show that perhaps hybrid engines are becoming increasingly popular.

Chevrolet brought their series of Red Line concept cars to SEMA, but released images and details on the vehicles beforehand to build up excitement and anticipation for the lineup. The diverse concepts include the Trax, Malibu, Camaro, Colorado, and Silverado 1500, in addition to the upcoming Chevrolet Spark RS concept. The Chevrolet Red Line concepts debuted November 3rd at SEMA.
The Red Line series was designed to show off the customization and personalization capabilities of Chevrolet’s 2016 lineup, and the Red Line upgrades will be available for vehicles in that lineup. The Red Line series upgrades include a new Enhanced Silver Metallic color palette option, Charcoal roof panel, and accents in red and Satin Graphite. Most of the changes will be purely cosmetic, so while the price has not yet been announced, they are expected to be rather affordable.
The 2015 SEMA Motor Show takes place in Las Vegas from November 3rd through 6th, drawing a crowd of over 60,000. Chevy is using SEMA to gauge interest in the Chevrolet Red Line concepts, but are confident that Chevrolet Accessories will become a quality alternative to aftermarket parts when it comes to personalizing their vehicles. Share with us your thoughts about Chevy’s line up for the SEMA show!
Chevy is celebrating its sponsorship of the MLB by putting a Corvette and Silverado right behind center field at Comerica Park in Detroit. Tigers fans were thrilled to see the redesigned Comerica Chevrolet Fountain, which puts two of Chevy’s favorites on display for an entire season. After hours of hoisting the cars in place with a special crane, they’ll now be visible for more than 3 million expected visitors.
According to Chevy, the Corvette Z06 and Midnight Edition Silverado were specially chosen to represent the brand this year. Both represent Chevy’s commitment to quality, highlighting rugged capability and high-octane performance.
“As the Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball, what better way could Chevrolet show our love of the game than by giving our vehicles a bird’s eye view of our hometown team?” asked Paul Edwards, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. He goes on to say that, “We like to think of these vehicles as the Chevrolet cheering section to drive those centerfield home runs.”
The fountain also has a host of water displays and sound effects for any time a player from the home team hits a homerun. We at Bradshaw Chevrolet just hope they don’t put any dents in the two display models.
For the 2016 model year, the Chevrolet Malibu will also be offered as an electric, which we at Bradshaw Chevrolet have now learned will be powered in part by technology developed for the 2016 Chevrolet Volt.
That can only be a good thing as we’ve learned at Bradshaw Automotive, because the Volt is an exceptional vehicle when it comes to electric technology. We have high expectations for the new 2016 Chevy Malibu Hybrid.
Some of the borrowed parts will included a modified two-motor drive unit, which will be mated to an all-new, direct-injection 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine as part of the Malibu Hybrid’s powertrain. That’ll give it a total output of 182 horsepower and the ability to go up to 55 mph on electricity alone!
The two vehicles also share power electronics and a blended regenerative braking system, which stores kinetic energy produced under braking into the battery system.
The Malibu Hybrid will offer an estimated fuel economy rating exceeding 45 mpg, which is higher than the competing hybrid variants of the Ford Fusion, Toyota Camry, and Hyundai Sonata.
Tell us what you think of the new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu as an electric vehicle here at Bradshaw Automotive as we wait for it to come into stores!

In January, Chevrolet’s electric Bolt concept made its world debut. Since then, we’ve learned it’s headed for production in late 2016 and should debut early the next year as a 2017 model.
Now we’ve learned the Bolt may be getting a new name, which we don’t think is a bad thing, especially since Chevrolet’s extended-range hybrid car is named the Volt.
“Some people think it’s confusing,” said Alan Batey, president of GM North America, in an interview with USA Today. “People are having some fun with it. It is generating awareness, which is good. It’s so conversational. We’re still in the decision phase. It could go either way. We have a little bit more time [to decide on the final name].”
The production version of the Bolt is expected to have an electric driving range of 200 miles, which should be more than enough to ease most range anxiety. Chevrolet also plans to sell it in all 50 states so everyone will be able to enjoy the benefits of electric driving.
We at Bradshaw Chevrolet want to know—if you could choose the name for Chevrolet’s new electric car, what would you choose?
Are you unable to make it to the Chicago Auto Show this week but still desperate to check out the new Chevy Equinox? No worries; Chevrolet has you covered with this tiny teaser picture of the Equinox’s front-right corner.
The small image shows off the new headlights and lower headlamps of the 2016 Equinox, which can be viewed in full at the Chicago Show this week. Though Chevy’s sneaky pic doesn’t reveal much, it definitely gives a clear view of the updated front lights.
Headlights aside, the updated model of one of Chevrolet’s most popular crossovers is set to get even more cosmetic upgrades, though information on technical specs is still sparse. Expect more details to surface as the Equinox gets its Chicago debut.
If you’re looking forward to the new Equinox, check out this 2016 Chevrolet Equinox preview picture or the current model at Bradshaw Chevrolet, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
The buzz from the Detroit Auto Show is rising to a crescendo, even after the event has closed, about one car in particular. The clamor is coming from the extended-range electric Chevrolet Bolt, the most talked about car at the show. With an estimated 200-mile electric range, double the Nissan Leaf, this new concept-in-name-only car can outpace any EV currently available! Couple that with the configuration allowing for four-passenger room and a spacious trunk, and you have a mass-market contender.
Chevrolet has leveraged all its expertise on zero-emission technology into this car, making it production-ready as early as 2017. The smaller and more efficient fuel cells sit completely beneath the floorboards to make the interior as spacious as a crossover, seating four and still leaving room for trunk storage.
Perhaps the most appealing feature is the price. Though not official, the Bolt will find its way into the market at around $30,000-$35,000, after a federal tax credit. That low price—and the 2017 Bolt’s high capabilities—will make this Chevy a great car for almost anyone. “For most people, this car can be their daily drive,” stated Chevrolet CEO Mary Barra.
Keep an eye on Chevrolet and its goal of bringing advancing technologies right to your driveway—and to Bradshaw Chevrolet!
